Most commercial HVAC units are situated on the roof of a building, leaving them vulnerable to hailstorms. One of the more common signs of hail-damaged air conditioning systems is bent condenser fins.
Fins that have been bent to roughly ¼ to 3/8 inches deep are usually classified as having major structural damage. Although there is still a chance that the unit can be repaired, fixing it might take a while. Replacing the unit might be the better alternative.
